Although generally thought of as ‘modern art’, abstracts are not necessarily ‘contemporary’ because they date back to the likes of Kandinsky in the early 20th century.
In some of the works here you can see how an artist’s signature representational style has evolved into abstraction. Adelene Fletcher’s triptych Heatwave, for example, is evocative of her more familiar landscapes and use the same earthy, natural palette. In contrast, Mark Hather’s intricate, almost holographic, geometric designs are pure yet playful abstraction. Open your mind as well as your eyes and let loose your imagination!
